“Namunyak Community Group: A Tale of Transformation, Abundance, and Gratitude”

In the heart of Kawalash village, where the acacia land sprawl with untamed beauty, the
Namunyak community stands as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power
of collective endeavor. This is a story of triumph, of a once semi-arid piece of land, transformed
into a flourishing 10-acre pasture farm as a result of support from a resilience project
implemented by Caritas Isiolo and funded by Catholic Agency For Oversees Development –
CAFOD.
Led by the calm and gentle Mr. James Lempatu, the chairman of the group, and assisted by the
soft-spoken Mrs. Jackline Lesooita, the Namunyak community group comprises of 35 members
who embarked on a journey of hope and transformation. As we ventured into the dense acacia
lands, high-rising grass shoots welcomed us, signaling a harvest that will be both bountiful and
hard-earned.

Amidst the green expanse, we are introduced to a group member, Mr. Edu, who explained the group progress so far and the plans in place to harvest the pasture for the group’s livestock consumption and sale. Standing amidst the tall grass, Mr. Edu noted that,” through the support of pasture seeds and trainings from Caritas Isiolo, the group was able to grow the pasture seeds on a 10 acre piece of land and the harvest is very promising.”

Another member, Mrs. Ngitaruni, with gratitude appreciated for the support offered by Caritas
Isiolo. With heartfelt appreciation, she expressed how the assistance provided had transformed
their lives as they now have enough pasture for their livestock, can sell pasture to other farmers
and nearby conservancies and are able to get income to sustain their households needs. The group have also managed to collectively fence off the 10 acre piece of land to protect their
pasture from elephants and hence maximize on their production.

Namunyak Community Group’s journey is more than just a success story; it’s a story of
adaptability. From the semi- arid lands of Kawalash emerged a thriving grass farm, symbolizing
the triumph of determination, shared purpose, and the promise of a sustainable future. As Mrs.
Ngitaruni extends her heartfelt plea, the community stands poised for yet another chapter in their
remarkable tale of transformation, propelled by the support from Caritas Isiolo and CAFOD.
